The world is gearing up to harness AI’s transformative potential while managing associated risks with it. In this quest, India has also rapidly enhanced its AI preparedness, driven by government initiatives like the INDIAai and others while focusing on creating a robust AI ecosystem.
This has solidified its position among the top 10
countries globally in AI readiness among 73 economies. India achieved
2nd ranking in Global AI Specialist and 3rd in research publications that have
a strong base in AI-related patents in BCG’s ‘The AI Maturity Matrix’ Report
2024. Through this, India showcased its commitment to becoming the
global leader in artificial intelligence while recognizing the vast potential
of AI in the realization of the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The achievement reflects India’s proactive approach to
fostering AI innovation, supported by a robust policy framework, a thriving
startup environment, and significant governmental initiatives. Key to
India’s success is its forward-looking policies, including initiatives like
NITI Aayog’s “National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence,” which prioritizes
AI-driven solutions for healthcare, agriculture, education, smart cities, etc. This
strategy emphasizes creating a conducive environment for AI research and
development, promoting ethical practices, and establishing collaborations with
industry leaders and academic institutions.
India’s focus on infrastructure and workforce
development has been instrumental. Programs integrating AI curricula into
schools and upskilling initiatives for professionals are bridging gaps in
technical expertise, ensuring that India’s young workforce is AI-ready.
The vibrant Indian startup ecosystem, combined with
its globally recognized IT sector, has further bolstered this growth. Being
home to numerous AI startups leveraging cutting-edge technologies for
applications across diverse sectors. Additionally, international
collaborations through programs like the Initiative on Critical and Emerging
Technology (iCET) with the United States underline India’s role as a global AI
hub.
India’s AI progress is further amplified
by government efforts to integrate AI across diverse sectors, emphasizing its
use in governance and public services with flagship initiatives like Digital
India. That has leveraged AI’s transformative
potential in the quick adoption of digital payments and e-governance. These
efforts aim to ensure AI’s transformative impact reaches all strata of Indian
society while promoting responsible and inclusive AI development across the
globe.
